Jabra Elite 85t Review

The true wireless Jabra Elite 85t earphones deliver top-shelf noise cancellation and excellent audio performance, both of which you can tune to your taste.

The on-ear Jabra Elite 45h headphones deliver excellent wireless audio and a ton of useful features for just $99.

Jabra’s Elite Active 75t earphones improve upon the original pair with a more secure fit and a waterproof design for a real true wireless winner.

Compared To Other Brands

  • Headphone variety. While most of Jabra’s headphones are designed for taking calls, they still make many types of headphones, from sports-oriented, truly wireless earbuds to mono headsets for truckers or office workers.
  • Multi-device pairing. Most Jabra headphones can be paired with up to two devices at a time, which is handy if you like to switch audio sources between your phone and laptop.
  • Great mobile app.The Jabra Sound+ app offers a graphic EQ and presets to help you adjust their sound to your liking. You can also access features like talk-through or adjust their standby timer.
  • Recording quality is okay. For headphones designed for calls, their microphones tend to offer an okay overall performance. However, while speech should still be understandable, it may also sound thin and muffled.
  • High PC latency. Many of Jabra’s Bluetooth headphones have high Bluetooth latency, which can be disappointing if you take many video calls.
  • Lackluster active noise cancelling performance.Only a handful of Jabra headphones have ANC. In the case of the Jabra Elite 75t Wireless and Jabra Elite Active 75t Wireless, this feature was added during a firmware update. However, the ANC only offers a slightly better noise isolation performance than their passive noise isolation capabilities.

How Long Does The Battery Last On The Jabra Elite 85h

    Jabra Evolve2 85 Noise

The Jabra Elite 85h battery lasts a very, very long time. Our testing yielded 34 hours, 35 minutes of playback with noise cancelling on. Jabra claims up to 41 hours with noise cancelling switched off and a year of standby time, but your results will likely vary from factors like listening volume, codec selection, and so on.

When the battery does eventually die, it takes two and a half hours to complete a full charge cycle via the included USB-C cable. If the battery dies and youre crunched for time, 15 minutes of charging provides five hours of playback.

How Do You Control The Jabra Elite 85h

Instead of incorporating touch controls, Jabras headphones make use of the right panel with nearly undetectable playback, volume, and call controls. Upon pressing the controls, a wheezing sound escapes from the ear pad. Initially, you may find this comical but it becomes increasingly annoying as time passes.

The edges of both ear cups also have buttons: an ANC button is on the left side, while the right side has a mic mute/voice assistant button just above the 3.5mm and USB-C charging ports. You may access Siri, Amazon Alexa, or via the voice assistant button. While the buttons are responsive, I wish they were slightly larger.

Pros:Headset paired without problems to my Blackberry and personal phone. The piece fit so well on my ear that I forgot I was wearing it. All the people I was talking to were astonished that I was on a BT headset. It was VERY clear and did well blocking noise. Sounded much better than my previous ‘good’ wired headset.Surprisely the volume was loud enough to understand my wife….that was amazing. That was the most common review compliant by some with this headset. I didn’t ever have to ask her to repeat what she had said. I would have to do that from time to time without any headsets. This might even improve my marriage. )

Cons:Let me start off by saying that I am being very picky…so what I have to say will not impact my overall score. I have a very minor issue about the noise cancellation feature. It worked well in almost every noisy environment. The one area it did okay in was isolating music from my car radio playing in the background. To be honest, I didn’t really expect it to work perfectly because I had the music up loud and the speakers were close to my headset.

Overall Review:Highly recommend and likely buy another for my wife.

    Who Should Get This

Jabra Elite 45H Super Lightweight Longest Life Bluetooth On Ear Headset

Bluetooth wireless headphones are for people who dont like to be tethered to their music devices and are willing to pay a little more for that freedom. Theyre also for people who own smartphones that lack headphone jacks and would rather not deal with special adapters to attach a wired pair of headphones. Bluetooth audio quality has come a long way, but you should still expect to pay more for wireless headphones that sound comparable to the best wired headphones.

This guide focuses on over-ear and on-ear headphones, which are obviously larger and heavier than earbuds but are also the preferred type for anyone who doesnt like the feel of wearing in-ear headphones. If youre looking for our take on Bluetooth earbuds, see For those who prefer wireless earbuds below. Bear in mind that with wireless earbuds, the battery wont last as long, and youll likely pay more to get similar or slightly inferior performance compared with that of the top wireless headphones in this guide.

Also, if youre looking for a pair of over-ear headphones to use while working, and your tasks include a lot of video chatting, phone calls, or work with dictation software, you may want to consider an office headset with a boom mic. You can find wireless options, even a few that sound pretty good while playing music. Check out our office headset guide to learn more.

The Master & Dynamic MW07 Go true wireless earphones offer a solid listening experience, but are a bit light on extra features for their relatively high price.

The Jabra Elite 75t earphones fit securely and deliver bass-forward, powerful true wireless audio you can tune to your liking though an impressive companion app.

Should You Buy The Jabra Elite 85h

The Jabra Elite 85h is a solid pair of headphones with an attractive price and design. However, if youre not one to pick apart sound quality, the Jabra Elite 85h is your best feature-packed option. On the other hand, if you want a slightly louder bass response from your headphones with significantly better microphone quality, look into the cheaper, on-ear Jabra Elite 45h.

We like the Jabra Elite 85h mainly because its a comfortable over-ear headset with a degree of water resistance. If you live in a humid place or sweat a lot while you walk, this could be a great option for youjust make sure to air out the headset before you place it back into the case. So long as you understand the ANC really isnt very good, youll be satisfied with how this headset fits and all the features you can play with from the mobile app.

    Flaws But Not Dealbreakers

As mentioned earlier, the active noise cancellation on the Jabra Elite 85h does reduce some lower frequencies a tad, but it isnt nearly as effective as what you get from the Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700. This fact kept the Elite 85h from being our noise-cancelling pick. But not everyone prioritizes active noise cancellation , and we liked every other aspect of the Elite 85h so much that we were able to let this flaw slide.

The Jabra Sound+ app includes a few bonus features that seem nice but dont really deliver. The Smart Active ANC turns ANC or situational awareness on based on your surroundings. We gave it a trial run, but we found it less than useful and ended up turning the feature off. Find My Jabra is designed to help you locate misplaced headphones, but the tracking applies only to where the headphones were last powered on in proximity to the device with the app. If you turn the headphones off and move them, for example, the map doesnt update. Plus, the mapping isnt room-by-room specific. So youll know your missing cans were last turned on somewhere in the building, but not specifically where or even if theyre still around.

As with most wireless headphones we tested in this category, with the Elite 85h the included cord doesnt have a remote or mic. However, Jabras active noise cancelling will work while youre listening via a cord, as will the headphones volume controls, albeit independently of the device .

Jabra Elite 85h Microphone Demo :

As far as technical specs go, six of the eight microphones are used during voice transmission to isolate the voice from background noise. This works fairly well as given by the demonstration. When I turn the background music on its much less audible than it sounds in real life. Whats more, the microphones actively work to combat wind noise, which works rather well when walking around.

As of July 1, 2021, 1,002 readers have rated the above mic sample as somewhere between okay and good. This is a pretty typical result for headphone mics, and at the upper end of what you should expect to get out of any products of this type.

What Earbuds Should You Get Instead Of The Elite 85h From Jabra

There are a handful of great noise cancelling wireless earbuds available, with more to flood the market in the coming years. While ANC earbuds arent as effective as their larger, over-ear counterparts, theyre better than nothing. If you have an iPhone, the Apple AirPods Pro are the earbuds to get. These integrate the companys H1 chip for streamlined usage across OS devices and hands-free Siri access. Whats more, the chipset affords solid battery life for this category of wireless earbuds, and the included charger is Qi wireless-certified. Dont have an iPhone? Spring for the Sony WF-1000XM4or get the budget-friendly which boasts beyond-good ANC.

If you dont care for the AirPods Pro, you have plenty of options to choose from and if you want to stay within the Jabra family, get the Jabra Elite 85t. These compact, ergonomic earbuds have excellent active noise cancelling performance and feature an IPX4 rating. The frequency response is quite bass-heavy, but you can EQ it in the free mobile app which is available on Android and iOS. Since the release of the Jabra Elite 7 Pro and Elite 4 Active, the Elite 85t is much cheaper and still a very good pair of earbuds.

Best Wireless Headphones For The Office: Sony Wh

Jabra Wave Bluetooth Headset – Unboxing & Review

We love the Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones for their comfortable fit, solid noise reduction, clear microphone sound quality, and handy add-ons, such as the voice-activated awareness mode. This over-ear pair has nifty bells and whistles that office workers and audio fans will both appreciate, but the XM4 comes at a higher cost than our other picks. In order to experience everything the XM4 has to offer, youll need to do some serious initial fussing in the app. But youll be rewarded with some of the best-sounding and technologically advanced Bluetooth headphones available.

The XM4 pair has a comfortable, lightweight build quality, with soft memory foam on the earpads and headband. There are touch controls on the right earcup and two physical buttons on the left earcup. Though we generally prefer physical-only controls, like those on the Jabra 85h , we didnt find the Sony controls to be overly sensitive to inadvertent bumps, humidity, or cold. The physical multifunction button on the left earcup can be customized to either toggle noise-cancellation modes or activate Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.

As we discussed above, the XM4 doesnt sound great out of the box. The XM5 sounds better, but is still tuned with too much emphasis on both the bass and highs. Both headphones benefit from using the EQ functionality in the app. If youre willing to put some effort into adjusting the EQ during your initial setup, both the XM4 and XM5 can sound much better.

How Does The Jabra Elite 85h Sound

Despite the lack of high-quality codec support, the Jabra Elite 85h has a pleasing frequency response. The slightly under-emphasized bass notes make it easy to hear vocals and important instrumental notes, though bass heads may need to amplify the bass response in the apps equalizer.
